What God has given [amazing!] “ma-shaa’a-LLaah” ( 1 ¢ a Le) literally means “What God has given!” [meaning: Amazing! How nice! How beautiful!]. In Ammiyya (the spoken variety) these three words are combined together and are pronounced as

one word: mashaL La. This expression includes the name of God to protect one from evil spirits and from the evil eye that might unintentionally destroy goodness. People hang signs with this expression o n it in houses

and businesses, and stick them on car windows for protection. ma— shaa’a—LLaah also expresses happiness, thanks and appreciation to God

for the blessings and the good things that He gives. If, for example, you see a friend’s child and learn about his or her success in school, you

should say ma-shaa’a—LLaah. Or if you want to tell your friend that his new car is beautiful, you should say, ma—shaa’a—LLaah.
