“It’s too much like work to get to be a lawyer,” Clarence Darrow once said. But he liked to get up in front of people and debate with them. He liked the idea of wearing polished black boots and riding around in a fancy gig. So with financial help from his brother, he set off to college. A country lawyer was all that he wanted to be, settling disputes ove: boundaries or horse trades in the rich farming country of Ohio. But he couldn’t make a living in a small town and he couldn’t talk to people about his new ideas. In 1887, he moved to Chicago. I

He defended people whom no one else would defend and he participated in one of the most famous cases of the century—the “Monkey Trial” in Tennessee. ;

“What he did for America will never be forgotten.”
