Introduction Central Italy 450 - 30 B.C. It is extremely difficult to establish a dividing line between Archaic and Classical/Hellenistic art in Etruria, as the Archaic style survived into the Classical period, and because the Classical style is not particularly well-represented in the Glyptotek's collection. We have chosen to draw the line at 450 B.C., but since the dating of the artefacts is not precise, there may be some overlapping. As the Glyptotek's collection is so rich in architectural terracottas, it has been decided to publish these in a separate volume. We have, therefore, only included the late Latin architectural terracottas from Nemi, together with a few pieces representative of types to be found in Nemi and Praeneste. There are so many artefacts of the late period that come from areas of Central Italy outside Etruria proper that we have chosen to call the volume "Etruria and Central Italy". This will include the many votive terracottas and cistae from Latium, vases from the Faliscan district and a few artefacts from the Adriatic coast and the Abruzzi. The reworked sarcophagi have been included as they were originally genuine undecorated sarcophagi, and the models for their decoration are among the genuine works.
