WILDLIFE SOUND RECORDING John B. Fisher Foreword
by Robert

This book is written as a guide for the ever-increasing number of enthusiasts who are taking up the absorbing hobby of wildlife sound recording. Whether the recordings are made for their own value and interest or to complement cine and_ still photography, the amateur recordist will find a wealth of information and practical hints. The equipment required is described in sufficient detail to ensure that it is correctly chosen within a_ given budget. While there is a trend toward the use of sophisticated recorders and microphones, the author points out that satisfactory results can be achieved by using relatively cheap cassette recorders and humble reflectors. Special items of equipment are given in-depth coverage and useful circuit diagrams (none of which are available commercially) will enable readers to construct their own equipment. Field techniques are discussed in detail and useful advice is given on processing recordings at home. Chapters on identifying birds from their sounds and birdsongs of particular interest will open up many avenues worthy of investigation. The practicalities of recording mammals, amphibians and insects are also included, and throughout the book emphasis is given to the need for recordists to have due consideration for their subjects.
