From: https://www.reddit.com/r/libgen/comments/ekes34/important_recent_changes_in_lg/ 05.01.2020 Dear friends, I'll make a brief statement, since there is no much motivation to say anything at all. We've been suffering from Bill_G and his further replicas, billion and Jonathan_Livingston, on in LG for years, since he has been entrusted most of our valuables, and eventually started using them for his personal benefits, including the book uploader etc. I tried to change it by writing The Code of LG and transferring a part of our assets to Mr_Moonlight, who presently administrates most of the stuff not available to (former) Bill_G. However, in a couple of years the situation with Mr_Moonlight has developed into a similar state of usurpation as with Bill_G when the control over the LG assets is in a single pair of hands and his refusal to comply with the values listed in The Code of LG has been both demonstrated and articulated. With this I see no reason to continue my way with LG, but feel I need to share this important information with those who are going to be here to plan your common future accordingly. I cannot support the project hijacked over and over again by people who eventually blame me in giving out the project to them. Without The Code as the common ground for the suitable interaction I see no point in contributing further, neither I wish to tolerate offense from such individuals. With best wishes to you all! bw PS I find that I have no permissions in the News subforum (in the forum that I established...), so, posting in "Library things". You might wish to copy the text before it is removed from public access which is quite likely. --- bookwarriror on Sun Jan 05, 2020 I think this, sadly, casts some uncertainty over the future of LibGen, especially due to the fact that its administration is not fully transparent for some reasons (least of legal), and we do not know the exact cause of the conflict, and what the aims of current trustees are. If you have been thinking of seeding/backing-up LG, this is probably the time. P.S. I am not affiliated with the project by any means, and thus won't be able to help; visit their forum instead if you like. This is an important reminder of the importance of decentralisation - community projects like this often get political given the differing interests of participants and there's always a risk of a split, which can have dire consequences. I am not familiar with the backstory behind this or what has been going on, but I do know one thing: if we want to see library genesis survive (whether in its current name and form, or morphed/forked into something else in the future), it's absolutely vital to ensure that the data survives. As some of you may be aware, there's been a recent effort to ensure there are many copies of the libgen data set (around 33TB of books) by encouraging people to seed the torrents. See https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/ed9byj/library_genesis_project_update_25_milli on_books/ I strongly encourage anyone reading this who has the resources to contribute to the seeding effort to do so. You will be taking part in an important mission in ensuring the immensely important work of the libgen project cannot be lost. The same goes for sci-hub, which is part of the same seeding effort. Please join us on discord at https://discord.gg/the-eye where we're coordinating the project.
