PREFACIO
La capacidad de calcular variantes es la componente principal de la fuerza practica de un ajedrecista. En el curso de una partida uno debe prever una larga secuencia de jugadas con sus correspondientes variantes en un tiempo posiblemente mas breve. En mejor metodo de dominar este arte se basa en entrenamientos sistematicos, debidamente orientados, solucionando posiciones, especialmente preparadas. En su obra el autor comparte el punto de vista clasico respecto a la teoria de calculo de variantes expuesta formidablemente en los libros de A.A.Kotov y M.I.Dvoretzky. Le experiencia de muchos afios de trabajo con j6venes ajedrecistas, la observaci6n de un esfuerzo eficaz de otros entrenadores comprueban que para perfeccionarse en el calculo de variantes generalmente se sirve del mismo ejercicio de entrenamiento que es la soluci6n de posiciones especialmente preparadas. En este libro figuran posiciones destinadas a los ajedrecistas de 13 categoria, cuando menos. En cada posici6n es necesario buscar la jugada mas fuerte o en algunos casos se requiere eligir entre varias jugadas indicadas, justificando despues su opci6n con variantes respectivas. Es deseable que las posiciones vengan resueltas en condiciones propias para una partida practica: colocando piezas en el tablero o controlando el tiempo gastado. Se puede dar tiempo para una sola posici6n o unir 4-5 posiciones en un bloque, concediendo el tiempo total para su soluci6n en conjunto. Consejos met6dicos para el entrenamiento:
l. Colocar la posici6n en el tablero encargandose del bando a quien toca.
2. Poner el tiempo para pensar seg6n el grado de complicaci6n de la tarea (15-30 minutos)
3. Eligir varias jugadas eventuales (que se imponen) - 3-5 minutos. 4. Calcular o anotar variantes en cada caso. 5. Eligir la mejor jugada.
6. En caso si no alcanza tiempo se puede agregar 5-10 minutos. 7. Si al terminar el calculo surge la sensacidn que la soluci6n no se haya encontrado, se puede
analizar la posici6n en detalles, moviendo piezas o apuntando despues los resultados del analisis. Es sumamente importante que se apunte no solo soluci6n correcta sino tambien todo el proceso de su busqueda. Eso vs a ser util para Ud. 6 su entrenador en el trabajo ulterior. Errores tipicos que se cometen al calcular:
l. Se omiten algunas jugadas eventuales.
2. No se toma en consideraci6n la defensa mas importante del adversario.
3. No se examina la continuaci6n mas fuerte en la segunda i tercera jugada del calculo.
4. No se grava bien la, posici6n que surge en pos de varias jugadas. Las posiciones presentadas en el libro se dividen en ocho capitulos, cada cual basado en su propio tema. Dentro de cada capitulo las posiciones se colocan de lo sencillo a lo dificil. La experiencia nos comprueba que una vez resueltas 40-50 posiciones de cada capitulo se elaboran unos habitos estables para que el calculo se haga bien preciso, mientras que la fuerza practica del alumno llega a alcanzar el nivel de candidato a maestro.

The solving of positions in this section develops the ability to see tactical blows in any situation and in any stage of the game. There are similar positions in many manuals, but they are always grouped by theme (diversion, decoy, pin etc.). In a practical game a player does not ponder over the tactical theme, and so a 'mixed' approach seems more useful. 1. Kornbinationssehen (Das Auflinden und einfache Rechnung der faktischen Schlige)
Die LOsung der Positionen dieses Abschnitts bildet die Fiihigkeit heraus die taktische Schliige in Ahnliche Positionen gibt es in vielen Lehrbiichern, aber sie sind immer nach bestimmten Themen gruppiert (Fesselung, Ablekung, Verfiihrung). Wiihrend des praktischen Spiels vertieft sich ein Schachspieler nicht in Gedanken an dem Thema des Schlages und darum scheint ein ,,gemischte« Einstellung niitzlicher zu sein.

Finding strong moves during calculation
The solving of the tests in this section should help in the elimination of the third and fourth typical mistakes (position poorly depicted in the mind, a strong continuation overlooked during calculation). The solving of such positions is usually carried out in three stages: a) a strong continuation is found; b) the opponent's strongest defence is considered; c) a way of overcoming this defence is sought.
