Introduction “You are what you eat.” What we eat has a direct effect on how our bodies would react to food and how we intend to live our lives. Many people now are putting great consideration on their health than ever before. Healthcare costs add up and starting to toll as we age. “Leave your drugs in the chemist’s pot if you can heal the patient with food.” – Hippocrates Through the years, we have been informed that going natural is better than taking artificial supplements and medications to boost our health. We eat to live and not live to eat. There are many health conditions known to be alleviated only by living healthy practices and taking a healthy diet and making it into a lifestyle. These food do not have side effects, except for allergies, and they are safer for consumption versus any other drugs. Natural medicines, hence, are also becoming a boom throughout the world. Primarily, countries in Asia and some parts of the US and Europe are setting up teams to study about the effectiveness of medicines derived from plants. They are investigating on how to prove how life sciences and the biological structure of plants can help to aid diseases. Through extracting and testing compounds, they are to know whether they can hinder some ailments to worsen and completely treat them. In 2000, Drug Store News revealed the top healing herbs and top supplements sold in the US:

Top Healing Herbs in the United States Top Supplements in the United States In 2002, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) conducted the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) which showed that the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States continues to expand. Even the most frightening big C (for “Cancer”) can now be evaded as there strong affirmation that herbal medicine and the use of

herbal products has grown dramatically in the Western world. “Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine (460-377 B.C.) Results taken from the studies of Nutrition, Health and the Environment led by T. Colin Campbell of Cornell University in 1990 confirmed that “the healthiest diets in the world contain a minimum of 80 – 90% plant foods.” They also conferred that people who take only about 10 to 15 percent of calories and 7 percent of protein from their animal meat intake had lower incidence of heart disease, colon cancer, and osteoporosis. This is based on a test performed on over 6,500 people. “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” – Ancient Ayurvedic Proverb After conducting several tests and putting out hypotheses, the Western and the Chinese found that they had different yet relevant approaches to keeping the body healthy by food consumption. The idea is that people should take healthy food in every meal. Since the body is found to be the best healer to avoid symptoms of diseases and counter them, eating herbs will help to reinforce the body’s healing energy.

Prevention of Disease by Eating Herbs Ashitaba organically grown in the U.S. is a well-kept secret and there are still few plantations of ashitaba all over the world. The longest traces of people eating herbs for preventing diseases and treating them can be retrieved from China’s history. In fact, Chinese Materia Medica, a reference material categorizing the types of herbs, was written back 30004000 years ago. Out of the three types of herbs, the most nourishing type has been classified as the food herbs. Food herbs, also called as “immortal food,” nourish the health to prevent diseases. Ashitaba belongs to this category as it produces

miraculous effects that increase mental clarity, rejuvenate the body, restore youth and prolong life.

How Ashitaba Works: Tomorrow Leaves Health Benefits as a Super Food A new obsession has erupted. People are now getting more health-conscious than ever. Admit it: whenever you see green food, you assume that it’s healthy. What green food is not healthy, anyway? Probably food coloring? But most likely, your assumption is CORRECT. Leafy vegetables and edible greens, if not all, are good for your body! Included in that list are the herbal plants, supplements and drinks that aid in your diet and well-being. One of the favored drinks known worldwide is green tea. There are many known benefits of green tea. Some of the best are that it decreases the risks of having cancer, it helps you to lose body fat and it provides your body with anti-oxidant agents. With all green tea’s useful essentials, you would be crazy over it. But now, medical researchers have found another herb that has even greater health benefits. That is ashitaba.

Ashitaba as Super Food First of all, let’s define “super food” here, so we are all in the same page. Super food can be tantamount to all food herbs or immortal food. Super food is regarded as composed of unprocessed substances that protect our health. Meals with super food consumed are incorporated with several

therapeutic and healing elements that prevent sicknesses. Also, when super food is regularly eaten, you will be assisted in reducing your unwanted fats. Super food like ashitaba is important as it defends your body system against various types of cancer, diabetes and coronary heart diseases. It also passes additional strength and energy to keep your good mood all day. Aside from ashitaba, green tea and wheat grass also count as super food which are vastly vitalizing. One serving of tomorrow leaves (e.g. percent ashitaba tea), for instance, is tantamount to eight servings of healthy vegetables.

Chalcones in Natural and Organic Ashitaba Green Organically grown ashitaba is the only known natural plant that contains an aromatic ketone and an enone called chalcones. Chalcones (or chalconoids) collectively are what forms the central core of a variety of important biological compounds. Helping the body on a cellular level, these compounds happen to be remarkable potent anti-oxidants.

Parts and Health Values of Ashitaba Plant Chalcone is the yellow sap derived from the stem of the ashitaba plant. It contains anti-fungal, anti-tumor, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities. (You will know more about chalcones in the next succeeding chapters.) Exhibiting the benefits of both land and marine plants, ashitaba leaves or tomorrow leaves have vitamin B that is normally not present in terrestrial plants. Ashitaba green leaves enable good formation of red blood cells and nerves. Aside from the stem and leaves, the stalk of ashitaba is also edible. It can be eaten raw, boiled, or deep-fried, or dried and ground for juice, dessert or other value-added products. It provides you with medium-to-high levels of

beta-carotene, riboflavin, and ascorbic acid. The roots of ashitaba can be cooked or pickled. Yes, even the roots are health for your body! Comparing to other vegetables, Ashitaba is nutritionally very well-balanced and especially abundant in fiber, β-Carotene and potassium in addition to protein and each mineral or vitamin.

Overall, the ashitaba plant is extremely rich is folic acid, coumarin (archangelicin) and medium calcium and iron.

Safety Uses

Herbalists usually would extract healing substances from the ashitaba plant by boiling it or soaking it in wine. Upon removal of the root, the ashitaba as raw plant can be taken as medicine orally. It can be also be taken in tablet, capsule, tea, and raw leaf forms and as an ingredient in cosmetics. While there are no harmful and grave side effects of taking ashitaba, you are safer if you consult with your physician or healthcare provider before taking ashitaba in supplement form it as some modifications might arise especially if your system is sensitive. This is the same as you are taking any other herbal medicine. These remedies are not officially evaluated by the food and drug administration (FDA), so be careful in experimenting with how your body would react to these medicines particularly when you are taking other medications at the same time. “The best doctor gives the least medicines.” – Benjamin Franklin

Wrap Up We reach a time and age when there are too many available cures and we are not sure which one is effective. Hence it can be expected of you to react with some level of doubt and skepticism. So health care professionals and consumers should increase awareness of the potential for adverse interactions with these herbs, question their patients on their use of them, especially among patients whose disease is not responding to treatments as expected, and urge patients to avoid herbs that could confound their treatment and care for various diseases and sicknesses. “He who takes medicine and neglects to diet wastes the skill of his doctors.” – Chinese Proverb

Multiple Health Benefits of Miraculous Plant: Ashitaba After knowing about the overview of ashitaba as a super food, you would want to know the health benefits ashitaba can provide.

Take Ashitaba Greens to “Feel More Energized Without the Caffeine Jitters of Coffee” Yes, a secret has been uncovered. It is a treasure, the “King of Vegetables.” It is also known as the tomorrow plant and “Longevity Herb.” It is popularly called “ashitaba,” “Angelica kinesis” as its scientific name, and many others. Ashitaba greens are mostly famous in Japan, China, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and the US. Though medically not prescribed by doctors (as well as most herbal medicine), ashitaba has absolutely great healing powers. NO sick person, particularly those with multiple illnesses, should not take it. Let me correct that. NO person should not ever be without organic ashitaba. Yes! Even folks in good state are recommended to eat or drink ashitaba. If you take in the tomorrow leaves, you will have a better tomorrow—your body will gain more energy and stamina. Research published in Nutraceuticals World, September 2002, astonishingly

showed that Ashitaba out-performed all other herbs including green tea that were tested for their antioxidant potential based on the ORAC guide (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity).

What are the Health Benefits of Ashitaba? No matter what angle you look at, ashitaba health benefits and the goodness of tomorrow leaves are immense. Because so many people are patronizing it, ashitaba is regarded as a “wonder drug.” Ashitaba green plants consist of 13 types of minerals, 11 types of vitamins, coumarins, fibers, proteins, saponins, etc. There are many health benefits associated with ashitaba. You can view each one in the rest of the chapters in this book. Here are some to give you an overview: You will look younger. Ashitaba keeps degenerative diseases from occurring. Your kidneys, liver, sensation of the overall body will be functioning better, too! Ashitaba has the power to rejuvenate your body’s cell properties. It also has growth hormones booster. Within weeks of drinking ashitaba tea, you will feel a noticeable difference in the glow of your skin straight away. This can be a good alternative to glutathione supplements which has the effect of detoxifying and purifying your liver and at the same time whitening your skin complexion somehow as it goes through your bloodstream. You can fight against diabetes. If you are nearing the line to having high blood sugar, regularly taking ashitaba can make you normal again. Ashitaba contains rich potassium and manganese that ease diabetes.

How Does Ashitaba Taste Like? As for its taste…BITTER is one word to describe it. Another one is nutty. It tastes wonderful, nutritious and healthy. However, don’t expect that it’s the same bitterness as the green tea leaves.

And don’t think that you cannot tolerate the taste because bitterness is good to stimulate digestion and increase the flow of bile. In this way, ashitaba is a tonic to speed up the elimination of waste from your body! You can have ashitaba tea as evening beverage or as a drink anytime of the day. It does not carry caffeine so you can have a good night sleep.

How to Get Ashitaba? Where to Get Quality Ashitaba? You can find several variations of ashitaba: tea powder, tea bag, supplement, tablets, etc. One good thing to do also is to combine ashitaba with colostrum powder, green barley powder and spirulina. I know they can be expensive and taste bad, but they are guaranteed to be very good in terms of health benefits!

Is It Safe For Children to Consume Ashitaba Leaves? By now, you might think that ashitaba would be good not only for you but also for your children. So the question we pose now is: “Is it safe for children to take ashitaba?” As the word about ashitaba spreads, many people are becoming more interested in ashitaba and many are also wondering if ashitaba leaves are safe for children. The short answer to this question is YES. This is because ashitaba or tomorrow leaves are just like any other vegetables. Kids who are lacking in vegetable intake are furthermore encouraged to eat ashitaba as this superfood contains plant-derived raw materials that are rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.

How Kids Can Take Ashitaba Though ashitaba might be hard to eat because of its bitter taste, people – both kids and adults – should learn to tolerate it to receive its full benefits. If your kid cannot really take the strong taste of the leaves, you can consider purchasing not the raw plant or the leaves but the processed forms of ashitaba such as the following:

1. Ashitaba Tea Most kids do not favor vegetables at any time of the day, no matter how forceful you are at feeding them. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan suggests that ashitaba contains lactic acid to balance the intestines and promote the activities of the stomach. So you can encourage your kid to

drink a glass of ashitaba tea at least daily to compensate their lack of vegetable content in the body and to help them clean waste. Ashitaba tea is easy to make and you can read more about the procedures here.

2. Ashitaba Powder You can serve ashitaba together with milk, yogurt, and other drinks to hide its likely horrible taste for children’s taste buds. Ashitaba products now are available in the form of powder that you can mix with a lot of beverages and food. 100 grams of Ashitaba powder contains the beta-carotene, also contains vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, biotin, folic acid, A, C, E, and K, and the minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, sulphur, iron and silicon.

3. Ashitaba Supplement You don’t have to prepare ashitaba as food or mix it with beverage. Instead, you can have ashitaba supplements and make it easier for children to swallow. Ashitaba supplements are convenient to carry anywhere. These supplements also contain the chalcone for extra cleansing. Chalcones are yellow sap found inside the stem of ashitaba contaning a very rare treasure trove of nutrients. They not only promote the circulation of the body but this juice of Angelica keiskei has more than twenty potents and rare flavonoids. Recent studies show that these chalcones, especially the 4-hydroxyderricin and xanthoangelol so abundant in Ashitaba, promise to combat some of the worst effects of visceral fat. Ashitaba supplements sold below 100% additivefree; so you can have your kids take ashitaba without the grassy smell and less bitterness.

How Ashitaba Treats Asthma Think that ashitaba can help treat asthma? You’re right. And for that, I give you a thumbs-up and a high-five! If you’re an asthma sufferer, drinking asthma tea will help you a lot in treating your asthma.

Asthma and Your Respiratory System When you have asthma, the airway in your respiratory system occasionally constricts (sometimes inflamed) as it is lined with excessive amounts of mucus. You have troubles and difficulty inhaling and exhaling. Furthermore, these asthmatic episodes are stimulated and triggered more when you’re surrounded with allergens, cold and warm air, moist surroundings. Dust and dirty insects such as cockroaches are some more of the contributing elements. When you are undergoing strenuous exercises that affect your thorough exertion in breathing or when you’re feeling too stressed, asthmatic episodes also come by. Mostly in kids, asthma from around the globe has been growing prevalence— in developing nations as much as in developed countries. Therefore, public attention has been brought up. And in the process of research for alternative medicine, ashitaba has been found as one of the medicinal herbs that can aid asthmatics and those who are prone to asthma.

How Ashitaba Reduces Mucus in Your Airways How ashitaba helps to pipe down asthma is that ashitaba leaves (tomorrow leaves) have anti-inflammatory properties taken from its antioxidant components. Also, ashitaba contains some of the few naturally found NGF stimulators. Nerve Growth Factors (NGF) in ashitaba help to mediate inflammation in airways and reduce excess mucus in both the airways and digestive tract. Ashitaba cleanses the liver and return the body to proper balance. And along with its several antiviral capabilities, the potent chalcones in ashitaba helps boost the immune system. When you have a stronger immune system, your body can avoid triggers by viral illnesses.

How Ashitaba Treats Depression When you experience any downturn in mood for any reason, you may be ordinarily sad or suffering already from depression. I’d like to think that there is casual depression, which can be easily cured by talking to a friend or an intimate partner or releasing your inner core of anxiety, disappointment, anger and deep sadness on paper. However, there are some people in reality who are depressed (to the max) who can’t treat their depression like so. What these people have is clinical depression which should be cured by a professional psychologist and a medicinal practitioner. You have severe clinical depression if your bad mood interferes with your daily encounters and affects other people negatively. There are countless of reasons of why you feel depressed regardless the type. But one thing is for sure: you have to regain energy and your ability to concentrate. When you’re in a depressed state, your internal processes do not function as they should. Your hormones become imbalanced and this aggravates depression more. Sometimes you can’t even breathe well, and this makes up for the lack in oxygen to your brain. When you tend to over-think about your problems with your complicated mindset, you most probably be inflicted with insomnia. Overall, your healthy body turns the other way around. Your state is undesirable. Ask yourself this question: “Have I taken ashitaba yet?” But before that, you should know about ashitaba and its awesome effects to your body. You may read on other articles in this book then proceed to the

explanation below.

Ashitaba Stimulates the Nerve Growth Factor Scientists at the Biomedical Group of Takara Shuzo Co Ltd have discovered that several compounds contained in Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei Koidzumi) enhance the production of the Nerve Growth Factor (NGF).

Nerve Growth Factor to Relieve Depression NGF is a protein essential in the development and survival of certain neurons in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It plays an important role in the smooth transition of signals along the nerves and from cells to cells. It aids neurotransmitters, effective in preventing and treating Alzheimer-type dementia and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Ashitaba contains Nerve Growth Factor stimulators which are essential proteins in the development and survival of certain neurons. This gives the light for NGF to relieve depression.

Chalcones in Ashitaba Ashitaba (Umbelliferae or Angelica sinensis) contains potent chalcones that promote metabolism and the proper functioning of organs. You may be wondering about its relation with depression. This may be some trivia to you: When you have good metabolism in your system, your hormonal levels will be in perfect balance thus promoting your well-being and alleviating depression. The chalcones also helps you to sleep so you can gain energy, focus or concentration back. If you are feeling normal, you can also take ashitaba (tomorrow leaves) daily to prevent yourself from being depressed.

How Ashitaba Brings Down Your Sugar Levels In fashion terms, the right tailoring can take you from lumpy to leading man or lady. Health-wise, even if you’re wearing the most exquisite suit crafted with the best tailoring, you won’t look like a stunning guy or gal if have blisters and other skin conditions related to diabetes. Your face and body will show that you have high sugar levels, and you are one to be left behind as the wallflower. To solve this… Limit your intake of sugary and sweet food, drink lots of water and eat more vegetables. In addition, have a regular workout and exercise activities to keep your body fit. All these are clichés that have been established all around the world. True enough, they are effective if sustained well. Some people incorporate injecting insulin, taking maintenance medicine and natural supplements to their dietary needs for treating diabetes. In this article, we’ll talk about how ashitaba reduces your sugar levels.

Just the Right Natural Supplement For You: Tomorrow Leaf Plant Ashitaba or “tomorrow leaves” is a unique green vegetable that has a sweet herb-like taste and has no known contraindications. Tomorrow leaves contain thick yellow sap rich in the highly potent antioxidant flavonoids known as chalcones. Remember this word for it contributes a lot to the “super” power of this dried 100% whole “longevity herb.”

To name some of its health benefits, chalcones guard our body against heart problems, cancer, oxidation of LDL cholesterol, kidney and liver problems, PMS, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes.

Ashitaba for Diabetics To date, there is mounting data that suggest that ashitaba can regulate blood sugar levels. Dr Kevin Lance Jones, a licensed acupuncturist and orthomolecular medical doctor (OMD) from California, in the US, says: “There is a patient in Texas that has insulin-dependent (Type 1) diabetes who is currently taking the herb. He says that he now has to use less insulin because his blood sugar no longer spikes with attacks of hyperglycaemia. Another diabetes patient in Japan took ashitaba for six months and his blood sugar level dropped from 400 mg/dl to 150 mg/dl.” In his review on ashitaba, it has been proven that ashitaba really helps to stabilize blood sugar levels and improve insulin response in diabetics. Ashitaba harmonizes the spleen and stomach and helps to balance the earth element in our bodies. If you want to be relieved of diabetes, you know what to do.

How to Take Tomorrow Leaves The recommendation is to take 1.5 to 2 grams of tomorrow leaves (equivalent to one teaspoon) once or twice daily before meals. If you want, you can prepare it as tea (just boil water with it), juice (add to the already-made drink), or additional element in salads and other food.

How Ashitaba Regulates Cholesterol Levels Picture this: Cholesterol level is 242 with extreme suffering from leg pain during exercising, blood clots and ruptured blood vessels, yellow patches (deposits of cholesterol) on the skin especially around the eyes. And all these can be reduced to the minimum (normal level) upon taking of ashitaba tea regularly for about six months. That introduction was my aunt’s success story. It was as if all her prayers were answered. Now on her second year of taking ashitaba tea, her cholesterol level has dropped down significantly from 242 to 180. Thanks to tomorrow leaves and my mom’s recommendation, she has landed in the safe zone firmly.

Cholesterol Levels Normal – Less than 200 mg/dL Borderline – 200 to 239 mg/dL High – 240 mg/dL and above

What You Have to Know About Ashitaba (Tomorrow Leaves)

Ashitaba in Japanese literally means “early growth” and this name also translates to “tomorrow leaves.” This is because its stem and leaves are able to reproduce so fast that the plant’s growth can be seen like magic. Every day you harvest a leaf; the next day it blossoms again! Its rapid growth somewhat exhibits a strong energetic life force, and this makes up for one of the unique attributes of ashitaba.

Consistency is Key I’ve once read in HealthySELF Magazine that you can cram for the exam, but you probably won’t get an A. Similarly, in taking ashitaba, don’t expect to get INSTANT GREAT results. You have to take ashitaba either in tea or powder form CONSISTENTLY for a major, magical transformation. Don’t take it for granted as well. You should always and still watch what you eat. In a strong effort to reach the desirable level of cholesterol in her body, my aunt constricted her diet and changed her lifestyle aside from taking tomorrow leaves. She did exercise wisely, stay hydrated and consume more fruits and vegetables daily.

Chalcones: Highly Potent Antioxidant As an edible plant, ashitaba contains Vitamin A, B, B2, C, B12, iron, potassium and more. It consists of a class of flavonoid compounds called chalcones. Recent studies in Japan and the US show that chalcone is responsible for lowering cholesterol levels (oxidation of LDL cholesterol). It also helps to guard against heart problems, osteoporosis, diabetes and even Alzheimer’s disease. Are you ready to be free from having high cholesterol? If yes, start now!

How to Prepare Ashitaba Tea

It’s best if you can grow the ashitaba plant in your own garden or backyard, so that you can just get pieces of leaves every day. If not, then you can buy supplements or ashitaba in powder form or tea bags. If you have the plant itself, to prepare ashitaba tea as your daily drink, get four leaves, wash them with salt water, rinse with clean water, cut them in smaller pieces and boil for a few minutes. A good suggestion is to drink a cup of it once to twice a day. Note: Allow four hours before drinking any other tea. For best results, get medical advice from your doctor. Get plenty of sleep, bring your body weight back to normal, avoid alcohol, stop smoking (if you are), avoid eating food with saturated fats, exercise and eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, oats and good quality fats.

How Healing Herb Ashitaba Cures GI Tract Disorders “Healing in a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.” – Hippocrates You might have gastrointestinal tract problems if you encounter these symptoms: fever chills headache vomiting nausea feeling of sensations of fullness in your stomach Now you’re asking why GI disorder has occurred to you. There can be a lot of reasons. Perhaps you have fallen short of reminders to take powerful dosages of fruits, whole grains, vegetables and cereals daily. Your gut integrity is damaged, injuring and disturbing your digestion and stomach functions altogether. Sometimes, because your digestive tract is inflamed, you’ll also have diarrhea and stomach cramps. Sure, you can choose from the way too many Western medicines available in the drug stores nearest you. But why not give herbal medicine a try? Actually, little has been known about herbal medicine. Only five percent out of all the plant species in the planet are accepted and cataloged. And believe it or not, only a quarter of this five percent have medicinal qualities.

One of them is ashitaba or the tomorrow leaf. It seems this tomorrow plant is booming in many countries. Why? It has so many health benefits that we can’t afford to lose! (You can explore more of them in this book.) Now, we talk about how it cures GI tract disorders.

Ashitaba is Rich in Prebiotic Fiber Ashitaba treats gastrointestinal tract disorders such as chronic gastritis, acute gastritis, duodenal ulcer, stomach cancer, chlorydria, gastric atonia and chronic enteritis. This is backed up by evidence from the study of National Institude for Agricultural Research in Nantes, France. Researchers found out that tomorrow leaves contain natural prebiotic fiber that impacts GI tract disorders positively and significantly. If you’re not aware, GI tract disorders, especially colitis and acute gastritis, affect more than two million people in the world. They cause erosion of your stomach mucosa, ulceration of the colon and inflammation that can result to malfunction of your immune system. Ashitaba stimulates the growth of prebiotics to produce vital components of short-chain fatty acids to activate immunity and lower the intestinal environment’s pH. With adequate amount of prebiotic fiber in your body, you will have more regulated bowel movements and possible reduced risk of having colon cancer. Fecal bulk will be increased and transit time will be regulated. In addition, prebiotic fiber prevents the colonization of the intestines as it has the capability to invade pathogenic bacteria like E-coli and Clostridium. Ashitaba generates good bacteria in the body to increase the number of bifidobacteria in the digestive tract. Bifidobacteria helps to increase Vitamin B and vitamin K and digest fats, carbohydrates and proteins faster. Another account was from Dr. Baba at Osaka University School of Pharmacy. In his paper, he showed a decrease in the severity of stress related to stomach ulcers. The extract of Angelica Keiskei Koidzumi also exhibited

an anti-bacterial action. Also, ashitaba contains chalcones which work on the mucus membrane in the stomach and suppress the excessive secretion of gastric juice that prevents stomach ulcers. The onset is that the gastrointestinal tract will be cleaned. Ultimately, your body will be more conducive to absorb calcium, zinc and magnesium and be more hostile to bad bacteria.

Percent Ashitaba Tea You don’t have to suffer from GI tract disorders if you drink ashitaba tea. And how better else you can have ashitaba tea than the Percent Ashitaba that contains tea bags for you? You don’t have to harvest the real tomorrow leaves by hand, dry them and prepare to serve the extracts to form a cup of ashitaba greatness. This product contains the main powerful component of ashitaba plant, its yellowish sap: chalcones.

How Medicinal Plant Ashitaba Solves Your Anemic Tendencies I have grown into a family where my brothers, sisters and I are prone to anemic tendencies (though not that serious). Having low blood pressure (about 90/60) is still considered normal for us. So we tend to always take iron supplements every day to prevent iron-deficient anemia. With the ashitaba phenomenon, we have been informed that one of the various active compounds in ashitaba is effective in solving anemic tendencies. So when a morning is spent refilling cups of coffee, we turn the other way around. Instead of hot chocolate, milk or orange juice as a pick-me-up, we grab ashitaba tea. Preparing ashitaba tea is really simple. We just blanch the leaves lightly and boil them in water for about 10-15 minutes before drinking. Taking ashitaba tea about three times a week has helped our blood pressure become “more normal.” After about a month since the first time we took ashitaba to date, my rate has been 100/80. My body gets enough oxygen, making me feel less tired. Oxygen is also carried to my organs and tissues and there are a good number of red blood cells circulating in my system. If that isn’t good news, I don’t know what is.

Power of Ashitaba Leaves: Too Good to be True? Throughout the history in China and Japan, Ashitaba leaves have attracted many people’s attention. The tomorrow plant treats anemia as it is rich in B12 and chlorophyll. Yes, chlorophyll is the green pigment on plants that we learned about in middle school Science. It collects and stores energy from the sun.

Consuming food with chlorophyll helps our body build and stimulate new red blood cells (hemoglobin) which is good for our heart. Furthermore, when our body achieves sufficient purified red blood cells, they carry more oxygen to the blood’s tissues. Ashitaba leaves and stem have this yellow sap called chalcones, which inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, interrupting the first step of arteriosclerosis. Taking chalcones cleans toxins in our blood and prevents the blood from being sticky, so that it can flow more easily.

How Ashitaba Gets Rid of Carcinoma and Melanoma Ashitaba: Better than Green Tea More and more physicians nowadays are becoming agreeable to the wonders of herbal medicine. It’s a guarantee that every medicine prescribed by your regular doctor has an alternative medicine made from organic and natural elements. This is certainly the case for treating cancer: carcinoma and melanoma. There are many other claims of cures using herbs. One of them is the Japanese parsley or the ashitaba plant.

Where Did Ashitaba Come From? Let me first give you an initial background of ashitaba… Ashitaba comes with the botanical name Angelica Keiskei Koidzumi and is renowned as the “tomorrow plant” because it has the ability to reproduce green stems and leaf almost every day. We are growing this plant at home and truth be told, we can harvest around three leaves from one plant on a daily basis. This herbaceous plant also grows all year so there’s no worrying about getting less leaves during summer or rainy season. From its name, you have probably guessed where this greenish yellow vegetable came from. Actually, there are mentions that ashitaba originated from China and passed down further to Japan where it became much popular. It came from Hachi Jo Island where it survives on volcanic rocks and soil with very high salinity environment. Local herbalists of the island have been consuming the leaves of ashitaba as both medicine and vegetable for over a

hundred years.

How “The Leaf of Tomorrow” Can Treat Cancer Ashitaba provides the human body with many benefits, as it is rich with vitamins, minerals, proteins and plant fiber. The plant contains high level of chlorophyll and vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 has been recognized for its ability to promote the production of blood cells, increase attention span and concentration, increase the production of growth hormone, and promote the immune system so that it can fight off serious disorder; such as cancer. Moreover, it secretes a yellowish substance called “chalcone” and a type of mineral that promotes the production of interferon. Chalcones is found to be a potent antioxidant that protects our body’s cells from damage. This is attributed to the aging process and many degenerative diseases including cancer. On the other hand, interferon is produced naturally in our body albeit in very small quantities. This element is what’s used to treat some types of cancer, like tumors, kidney cancer, multiple myeloma and malignant melanoma.

How Ashitaba Cures Gout It was year 2009 when my family started experimenting with ashitaba, propagating its intake to our relatives and friends and constantly talking about her “new” discovery. We had started to grow ashitaba plant in our small garden in that year and has been taking a few leaves regularly for wellness. Many people are questioning “Are health benefits of ashitaba for real?” Now we know the answer: yes.

True Story One of my friends has introduced ashitaba to our family. According to researches, I found out that ashitaba belongs to the one percent of plants around the world that are classified as medicinal. Because it had a history as an effective cure for gout, this friend advised my husband to take ashitaba leaves to cure his gout pains. My husband has been suffering from gout flare-ups since he was in high school. High uric acid levels runs in the family, and he’s just the only one who have been passed down to among the brood of eight. The prime of his continuous gout attacks happened some time last year when he could not even drive himself to work for several weeks. His feet were swollen. Even walking felt like a chore, and he thought he was cursed by some evil spirits. Before his knowledge on ashitaba, to live a seemingly functional life, he took maintenance medicine following the family physician and endured the pain. He researched on the Internet for alternative herbal medicine as he was afraid that Western medicine will only give him side effects later on. He found so many organic supplements to aid in improving his condition that he did not

know which to choose. One day he learned about ashitaba and learned many things and benefits about it. We bought an ashitaba plant and also started growing it in our balcony under a shade (with no direct exposure from the sun). Every day, he takes fresh dry ashitaba leaves before meals. He also changed into a good lifestyle with a more balanced diet. Maybe his becoming to a vegetarian also helped ease down the gout attacks.

How Ashitaba Stops Gout First you need to understand that gout is a form of arthritis that is caused by a buildup of uric acid in the body. If you are a sufferer of gout attacks, this means that you have difficulty in eliminating uric acid so they build up in your joints, ligaments and tendons. They can be very painful and unfortunately, the pain takes quite a while to subside. My husband has been noted of the different pharmaceutical drugs that are available for treating gout. However, he is afraid to take them frequently because even doctors say that they can be very hard on the kidneys and are not for really designed and suited for long-term use. So people take alternative medicine (herbal medicine) as a resolve. Ashitaba is one of the most effective treatments to stop gout. Ashitaba contains enzymes that help break food particles down. It also has anti-inflammatory agents. The chalcone, which is the yellowish sap found inside the stem and roots of the ashitaba plant, is responsible for inhibiting the inflammatory process. So when you have decreased uric acid, you will have lesser gout attacks! If you continue this to fit in your lifestyle, chances are, you will eradicate gout forevermore.

How Ashitaba Enhances Cell Reproduction and Cell Revival When something is strange in a good way—something that strikes to capture your attention, you tend to become curious and follow it. You want to know how it is done and what it is capable of. One instance is with the people of Hachijo Island in Japan, where most if not all of their population reach the old age of 90 and older. How can they have such longevity? Groups of researchers have gone to their place, interviewed them and came up with an analysis: people in their island are consuming great amounts of ashitaba (tomorrow leaves) to sustain their well-being. Taking ashitaba contributed to their extended lifetime, and if you want to know how to accomplish just that, read the rest of this article.

Record of Ashitaba’s Medicinal Value Ashitaba belongs to the species of the Angelica family which is found about two thousand years back in China’s history. In conjunction to China’s studies, Japan has also learned about this medicinal herb and concluded that the ashitaba strain is superior among all herbs of the same clan. The oldest written record of the medicinal value of ashitaba appears in a Chinese book listing the medicines that are derived from grass. The book was first published during the Ming Dynasty and was written by Dr. Lee during his lifetime from 1518 to 1593 AD. This book was then transcribed into Latin, English, German, Russian and became internationally famous as a publication on Oriental Medicine. The book was later brought to Japan in 1606 and presented to the Shogun by a Razan Hayashi.

Ashitaba is Rich in Antioxidants Have you ever thought that antioxidants and longevity are connected? If not, then you now know. Antioxidants prevent aging and increase your lifespan. As you age, your cell division and replacement of dead or damaged cells slows down. Antioxidants can speed up the cell division and cell replacement processes, which can help to slow the overall effects of aging and prevent specific age-related diseases. Ashitaba provides you with the amount of antioxidants your body needs. This is even without bothering to take the top 10 food which contain the greatest antioxidants (i.e. dried small red beans, pinto beans, red kidney beans, wild and cultivated blueberries, cranberries, cooked artichokes, blackberries, prunes and raspberries). Consuming ashitaba whether in pure and natural leaf form, tea form, powdered form, tablet or capsule form will protect your cells from free radical damage. This free radical damage is what accelerates the aging process and what makes infliction with many degenerative diseases including cancer more probable. Ashitaba will also relax your blood vessels and decrease the oxidation of unhealthy cholesterol, therefore increasing your life span. If you keep at this lifestyle with ashitaba almost present with every meal, you will also reduce your risk of having threatening diseases, immune dysfunction, brain disorders, heart attack and strokes. Your body’s cell can rejuvenate faster and reproduce; at the same time, you will be immune to flu, viruses and infections.

Ashitaba Prevents DNA Degeneration Your body automatically rebuilds itself day by day and in every moment of your life. Cells die and new cells take in their place if your body works according to proper functions.

However, the bad news is that in almost every instance as well, your DNA is being attacked with many factors. It also becomes damaged constantly and this leads to more or less serious results. When your DNA (the cell reproduction and revival machine) does not work as it should, your body will age, cells will not be replaced with new ones, your body gets contaminated with harmful constituents and you may have the deadly sickness: cancer. If you take in food with lots of antioxidants, this will be reversed. Ashitaba is like a magic pill and solution that ensures correct cell reproduction and protection of your DNA.

How Ashitaba Benefits Your Health By Promoting Your Metabolism Ashitaba, which is now also known as “tomorrow leaf,” contains a special kind of yellow sap called chalcones. It is chalcones that make ashitaba an effective potent as a diuretic, laxative, and aid to good metabolism. Over the past years, studies have denoted that exposure to toxins in our food (especially fast food and unhealthy snacks) and environment is the principal cause of degenerative diseases including cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease, emphysema, allergy, etc. These diseases are occurring in epidemic proportions which modern medicine has become powerless to stop. In this article, you will know how ashitaba helps to remove toxic waste from your body thereby improving metabolism.

Detoxification Powered by Ashitaba If you’re not drinking ashitaba yet, you’re not alone. Ashitaba is not yet a popular drink because only a few people know about this currently. But pretty soon, I’m sure that it will take on the popularity it well deserves. Before so, you have to be one of those people who have strong belief on the health benefits that ashitaba brings. If you want to improve your metabolism, you can try ashitaba as it work as an effective diuretic to remove toxic waste from the body and enhance smooth bowel movements. Fundamentally, a cup of ashitaba drink (can be made from the extracts of the original leaves) has as many antioxidants as 10 cups of regular tea! Regular consumption of the ashitaba drink will increase the body’s rate of burning calories from 8-10 percent to 35-43 percent.

When you mix this with exercise, you will immediately result to having burned 25% more fat. Also, because ashitaba contains high levels of chlorophyll, it detoxifies the body. It has the ability to clear the body of toxins, heavy metals, poisons, dioxins and hormone disrupters. The green leaves of ashitaba contain high dosages of easily absorbable dietary fiber. The benefits of dietary fiber include its ability to ease constipation and stabilize blood sugar levels. So whenever you have the liking or inclination to drink coffee or soft drinks, try to drink a cup of ashitaba instead. It is a healthy drink that can even help you shed excess pounds.

How Ashitaba Helps You Lose Weight with Faster Metabolism When your body system reacts and works with a fast metabolism, you don’t need to exercise as much and be exposed to hazardous and strenuous activities with the intention of losing weight. This is because calories are burned faster and easier. Unlike some slimming teas, consuming ashitaba does not give you side effect such as excessive urination, diarrhea and stomach cramps. Try drinking ashitaba every day for breakfast to help you prepared in improving metabolism upon the start of your day.

How Tomorrow Leaves Prevent Hair Problems In grocery stores and hair solutions centers, I often see those shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment to help solve thinning of hair. Question, are they really effective? Main causes of hair loss are genetics, extreme illness (e.g. thyroid glands not working properly or effect of chemotherapy), stress, starvation, fungal infection and scalp damages (e.g. caused by bleaching, perming, etc.) which have not been taken care of for long. These lead to excessive hair fall, reclining of the hair line, thinning of hair and ultimately bald spots and full baldness. In this article, you will learn how ashitaba leaves or “tomorrow leaves” help to prevent hair problems.

What accounts for hair loss and hair growth? It’s perfectly normal if you are losing like 50 to 100 hair strands a day. Point is that you will inevitably see your hair around you—in your brush or comb, in the shower or bathroom floor, and on your clothes. This is because our cells die and grow every day. So to provide new room for the new hair strands to grow, the older hair strands fall out. However, for some people, only a few strands of hair replace the old one. Hair for them does not start growing as fast, and this accounts to the thinning of hair. Worse is when fewer hairs grow all over the scalp and they lose hair in spots that will be called and seen as “bald spots.” If you already have bald spots (either at the top of your head or below near the back of the neck), then it may not be easy to treat and grow your hair on that spot all over again. But if you see that you’re just starting to have bald

spots (hair gets thinner at certain areas), you still stand a chance!

What Ashitaba Can Do For Your Hair Ashitaba or tomorrows leaf somehow is magical because the plant produces at least a leaf every day. When you take one out today, you will see another one blossomed and ready for harvest the next day. Can you relate the same pattern to your scalp? Sure, you can! Ashitaba has fast regeneration properties and its sap can be used as a tonic for thinning hair. Ashitaba moisturizes and lubricates your scalp, promoting natural hair growth that result to shiny, fuller and stronger hair. You can try it as a green drink for it has no caffeine and low amount of calories. When you drink one cup of ashitaba per day which is about 1.5 grams, your scalp will be healthier thereby enhancing hair reborn. When you already are seeing symptoms of thinning hair and other hair problems, you should take about two to three cups daily to help remedy your problem at once. There can be so many products in the market advocating for the same thing. But with ashitaba, we have already seen the effects in our old (elderly) friends who have tried taking this healthy drink. And the effects are simply amazing!

How Tomorrow Leaves Relieve Your Menopause and PMS Symptoms Practitioners of Chinese traditional medicine have studied the therapeutic effects and benefits of ashitaba many years ago. There are several other advantages of taking ashitaba (tomorrow leaves). Among these is that ashitaba helps to treat pre-menstrual symptoms and menopausal problems.

Ashitaba Plant for Women If you are a woman who is encountering irregular patterns of your monthly menstrual cycle, let me elucidate the goodness of ashitaba for you. Another case is that when you suddenly stopped menstruating after a long period of time. When stress levels are increased at max, your hormones and estrogen levels will be affected, and so is the menstruation cycle and PMS. You can be advised by doctors to take vitamins to enhance the growth and regularization of these hormones. However, for some people, to no avail these are helping them after some months. I can testify with my account. But instead of taking other supplements, I drank ashitaba in tea and powder form in six months and saw great results. Until now, I have not encountered anymore problems related to PMS and the irregularity of my menstrual cycle. I am so happy that I am back to normal! Moving on, I will explain how ashitaba can be of help to you in the following section.

Ashitaba Treats Menstrual Problems Ashitaba is great at removing the stagnation of blood in the uterus, which in

operation helps to increase blood flow, activates the “qi” and solves many menstrual difficulties. Also, ashitaba has a warming effect on the uterus, which assists in relieving menstrual pains. Maybe it works the same as the rice wine or any other type of wine. I am also not allowed to drink any cold or cooling drinks as these will hinder the effect of ashitaba and/or the wine. I also noticed that menstrual cramps and pains are gone. Taking ashitaba made me this comfortable! Further, ashitaba practically treats gynecological conditions that are generally not easily treated with conventional therapies. It can provide options beyond hormone replacement therapy and hysterectomies. So if you are a woman in your middle forties to early fifties, you are recommended to take ashitaba to keep your hormones balanced and maintain good menstruation just before your system turns to the menopausal stage. The good thing is that it does not have any stimulating effect so you can take it really frequently regardless of age.

How Ashitaba Improves Your Memory “To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” – Buddha As a mother who has to remember lots of stuff, my mind is often beset with so many problems, details of events and other things that are so important that should be kept intact to my memory. But through age and time, memory gap becomes more of an issue. I’d like to think that our brain’s memory functions like that of the computer’s. We can enter information and let it stay there but we also have to put out information once it is nearly full. However, in reality, the human’s brain is not like that. We can actually store loads and loads of facts, senses, feelings and memories from our day-to-day lives in there only if we can improve our memory to the maximum ability our brain can put forth. One way to do this is to exercise our memory with the use of these techniques: visualization, chaining, linking and acrostics. “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” – John F. Kennedy When I was a student, I used different types of mnemonics to help me remember answers to my exams. I am strong in picturing things and relating them to my studies. Often I write them all on paper, to see how far I have memorized and understood things I read from the book or heard from the lecturer’s discussion. Mind you, I also compose rhythms of songs and sing sentences together— including complicated ones with technical jargons. I have tried different stuff that helped me remember. But I think all these will not happen successfully

also when I don’t take ashitaba. Truth be told, I set myself as an experiment on the effects of ashitaba on improving memory. There was a period when I do my “remembering tactics” without taking ashitaba and another time when I keep doing the same memory techniques while taking ashitaba every day. The result is that I tend to remember things more cohesively and meritoriously when I take this superfood.

Nerve Growth Factor The nerve growth factor is a protein essential in the development and survival of certain neurons in both the central and peripheral nervous systems, found in the brain. Discovery by the scientists at the Biomedical Group of TAKARA Shuzo Co Ltd stated that the Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) is enhanced by several compounds contained in ashitaba. They found that NGF contains a protein that is effective in preventing and treating Alzheimer-type dementia and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. And ashitaba is a catalyst as it serves to enhance the passage of blood to the brain and increase the concentration of the NGF. Chalcones inside ashitaba have also been uncovered to stimulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor which is synthesized in minute amounts in the body. Chalcones are essential in the development and survival of certain neurons (nerve cells) in the peripheral and central nervous system. Evidence was created when a group of scientists from the Biomedical Group in Takara, Japan officiated an animal study. Result was that there was a 20 percent increase in nerve growth factor concentration in animals taking ashitaba for just four days. So let your body cleanse, nourish and heal itself with ashitaba and improve your brain’s memory functions at one go.

How Ashitaba Beautifies Your Skin and Complexion Ashitaba whose official name is Angelica Keiskei Koidzmi was discovered in Hachijo Island in Japan. This island is near the Pacific Ocean about 290km south of Tokyo. Through the years of research about ashitaba, it has been found that that this herb can produce godly effects. One of its benefits is that it slows down the aging process. Thus the plant has been named as Angelica (Latin for “angel”) belonging to the same genus as Angelica Sinensis.

How to Solve Skin Complaints with Ashitaba You can massage tired body parts like the shoulders and the back of your neck with ashitaba for it also acts as an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. Inside the stems and the roots of ashitaba, you will find a sticky yellow juice gushing out. This juice readily flows topically to treat a host of skin conditions. The plant’s juice can be applied to cysts, boils and pustules to speed healing. If you are tired and have body pains, you can apply this juice like an ordinary lotion. Ashitaba as a Skin Tonic to Heal Wounds Ashitaba contains potent anti-oxidants, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and antifungal properties. Its organic herbal extracts have been used in Asia for

thousands of years as a skin tonic. What’s more, the same leaves are used for healing wounds as they can speed up the healing process of infections from insect bites. More aptly, ashitaba is used as a good insect repellent. It also protects the skin from sun damage, planters’ warts and athletes’ foot. Ashitaba’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties can calm patches of red and skin irritation. The good news is that because it is very natural, ashitaba works great for all skin types including sensitive skin. Furthermore, Ashitaba is counted as a good cleanser that is high in antioxidant flavonoids content. These flavonoids are also called chalcones which reduce the the cell damage caused by free radicals and increase overall blood circulation. You know when blood circulates well in your system, acne, scrapes, cuts and other bites can be healed faster.

How Ashitaba Improves Liver Functions In laymen’s explanation, your liver acts as a chemical processing factory that converts most of the food you eat into substances your body can use. The liver is the largest organ in the body; it performs over 500 bodily functions. One of the most popular functions is that it gets rid of the things that are useless to the body and those toxic elements that are harmfully affecting the other organs. With this said, you should take proper care of your liver. Unlike the kidneys which you can take out one and still live, you only have ONE liver in this lifetime. When it malfunctions, you’re doomed. While there are other ways to strengthen your liver, taking ashitaba will provide a push in making it function better.

Understanding How Your Liver Works You run fast, react quickly and work hard because your body stores and uses energy. How this happens is that glucose or sugar is stored in the liver as glycogen. If your liver has a problem, the glucose levels will go awry and they will be somewhat in haywire. The result is that carbohydrates will not be burned as energy and proteins will not be ingested and broken down into amino acids as they should. You will have no fuel refill to gear up and do even simple actions. Your liver is responsible to clean your blood as well. It removes the toxins out and transforms chemicals brought by food into something usable by the body.

Now, Ashitaba Enters the Picture…

Ashitaba is rich in vitamins and minerals like A, D, K and B12. It helps in the generation of bile, which is the thick yellow-green digestive juice that helps the body absorb fat from the gut into the bloodstream. Without this substance, your body will have a hard time digesting fats. Bile is stored in the gall bladder and is only released when the body needs it to digest fats. Another thing is that ashitaba helps your liver to produce just the right cholesterol your body needs for normal growth. It controls the cholesterol level so that fats will not be stuck in your arteries.

How to Take Ashitaba For Best Results Ashitaba is a green whole food. To maintain good liver, take the suggested dosage of ashitaba–one teaspoon of ashitaba powder both after breakfast and dinner with some fruit juice and a glass of water. However to be sure, consult your physician whether it’s safe or not to mix it with their prescribed medicines. You can also have it as tea. As it does not provide any bad side effects, as an herbal remedy, ashitaba tea can be taken with as many cups as you would drink any other tea. But also keep in mind that you need to have a healthy diet and lifestyle, drink lots of water for good circulation and maintain fitness by regular exercise.

How Ashitaba Strengthens Your Kidneys Your kidneys are one of the most important organs in your body system. The kidneys filter your blood and get rid of waste products that are not needed by the body. In this article, you will learn how the ashitaba plant can help strengthen your kidneys in a natural way.

Ashitaba in a Nutshell The ashitaba is known as the Japanese celery that has traveled all the way from China to Japan. Research says that the ashitaba plant has long been kept as a secret from the Ming Dynasty of China to the Shogun warriors only among the elites. It’s like an elixir of life, used as a tonic and a source of life longevity. One of the known benefits it proclaims is that it strengthens the kidneys.

How to Look After Your Kidneys Every Day Your kidneys are crucial in getting rid of waste products carried in your blood vessels and veins. They select and filter which among the food or drink you intake does not contain any nutritional properties. These waste elements are thrown down your bladder through ureters and released as urine. You may treat is as your automatic waste disposal system which also functions to balance the amount of fluids you have inside.

Something is Wrong with Your Kidneys If… To keep awareness regarding kidney problems, notice your urine every time

you pee. If there is blood, then you might be in trouble. This is because kidneys already fail to stop red blood cells from flowing and going into the urine. So immediately check with your doctor for other symptoms and confirm your sickness. When things come to worse, you will have to undergo dialysis with a help of special machine used in hospital and now can be bought to be personally used at home. This machine acts like your natural kidney that washes and cleans your blood. The worst thing that can happen is that both your kidneys fail to do their job. When it gets to this complication, you may have to undertake a kidney transplant to extend your life.

How to Prevent Kidney Problems with Ashitaba When you’re perfectly normal, take as much water as you can throughout the day. Doctors advise six to eight glasses of water to replenish fluids in your body. Maintain a healthy diet as always to get the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Another way to do it is to take ashitaba tea, ashitaba injections ashitaba capsule or tablets, or the ashitaba leaf itself. As a detoxifier, ashitaba helps the kidneys to regulate the six to eight liters of blood and filter fluids many times a day. Ashitaba is also good for your kidneys because it acts as a diuretic that increases urine output. It also produces vitamin D actively so that your body will be triggered to make more red blood cells as needed. What’s more, science suggests that the kidneys make a hormone that can constrict the arteries in the body. When they become malfunctioned or less effective as your health gets poorer, the tendency is that blood pressure will rise. Ashitaba helps to change your blood pressure and return it back to normal. It has compounds that make sure that blood gets to all parts of your body, enhancing just what the kidney does.

How Ashitaba Improves Your Immune System Having a strong immune system means that your body is protected against infections and bacteria. Your immune system provides soldiers in your body that attack the “bad guys” and destroy these alien things that are harmful to your body. Without a well-functioning immune system, you will frequently get sicknesses because the disease can’t be gotten rid of. As you get older, there are more germs that manage to enter your body if you don’t have an immune system strong enough to keep them away.

Signs of a Good Immune System You need not be a doctor to determine if you have a good immune system. Signs that are evident to show that it’s working the way it should include recovering quickly after getting sick, healing of wounds or cut quickly when it got infected and quick response of your body to alleviate swollen parts. Also, if you don’t catch the same diseases repeatedly, then you know there is some magic your immune system performs to fight and block off the bad cells.

Signs of a Bad Immune System Likewise, you will know that there’s something wrong with your immune system if your body’s healing properties are not working actively. When this happens, the good cells do not recognize themselves as good therefore whenever threatening elements enter, they are forced to attack themselves as if they are the enemies. When the immune system is overly damaged, the

worst case scenario is to acquire AIDS. AIDS is a serious illness that triggers a lot of infections in the body. When you have AIDS, you are more prone to be inflicted with any type of cancer. The sad thing is that your body cannot determine which among the cells are normal and abnormal.

Ashitaba as an Immune System Tonic Tomorrow leaves or the ashitaba plant is seen as a powerful medicine against infectious diseases. This is because it contains a healthy amount of antioxidants that boosts the immune system up high. These potent antioxidants are rich in coumarins which contain carcinogenic properties that help to cure infections and prevent them as well. Citrus fruits and celery are vegetables where coumarins are consisted of. In fact, recent studies tell that ashitaba outperforms all other herbal supplements that supply antioxidants. The water based antioxidants that ashitaba possesses measure even more compared to tea leaves, says the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC). Actual values are 6.20 for ashitaba and only 4.67 and 3.50 for sage tea and green tea respectively. Moreover, ashitaba contains phenolic compounds active as an antiInflammatory, anti-Tumorigenic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-Microbial and detoxifier.

Ashitaba for Vegetarians and Vegans: What are the health benefits? Wonder why ashitaba is the most popular green food in Japan? It’s not often when you can kill many birds with one stone. Consuming ashitaba will help save healthcare costs and certainly protect your health. I’d like to put emphasis on the latter. Ashitaba is a single super product that exerts so many positive effects on health! It contains 11 different types of vitamins and 13 minerals. B12 is one of them. This vitamin is normally produced only in animals (meat, fish and eggs) and not plants. So if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you should most definitely take ashitaba to supplement your body with B12.

What B12 Does With regular and adequate supply of vitamin B12 in your daily diet, you will have increased production of blood cells, increased attention span and concentration, increased production of growth hormone, and stronger immune system to fight off serious disorders like cancer. Conversely, if you are short of B12, your body will be more prone to having serious cognitive and nervous system problems, in addition to increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and pernicious anemia. But that is not all, so stay with me here. Nutritional analysis of ashitaba revealed the following: 100 grams of ashitaba powder contains the beta-carotene content

equivalent to four carrots for good vision. The vitamin B2 content in ashitaba is equivalent to 28 cloves of garlic. This celery-like vegetable also contains nerve growth factors (NGF) that help to regulate good blood pressure and lower cholesterol. Its vitamin C content is equivalent to four lemons and nine times the amount of iron found in spinach. Ashitaba is a lactogate and as a detoxifier, which helps remove heavy metals such as mercury, lead etc. which have been found in mother’s milk. It promotes a better immune system with healthy milk for babies. Ashitaba restores the efficient function of organs, especially the liver and kidneys. It is an effective blood purifier and detoxifier. Ashitaba also contains vitamins B1, B3, B5, B6, biotin, folic acid, and the minerals calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, zinc, copper, manganese, sulfur and silicon. Ashitaba promotes metabolism for weight control and helps lower blood sugar levels, enhancing the body’s own ability to heal itself.

Codename (Scientific): ANGELICA KOIDZUMI For both men and women of all ages, ashitaba is recommended as it has been used as a traditional herbal formulation. Try taking it for a month and the wonder will soon dust off the pearl. You will know why in Japan, this celery-like plant’s juice is present in their 24/7 major subway stations in a form of healthy energy drinks. In Japan, they even sell ashitaba ice cream! Yummy!

How to Take Care of Ashitaba Plant (Longevity Herb)22 Sometimes referred to as the Japanese dong quai, ashitaba comes from a unique strain of celery-like vegetable family. It has been part of the local diet of indigenous people of China and Japan for thousands of years. Tomorrow leaves can be eaten as a vegetable in meals and/or drunk as tea. It provides many health benefits. This medicinal herb is often sold singly in pots. It grows as a rosette plant with a height of 20 to 30 cm. Its large, much divided leaves confer a rather lush look to the entire plant. If you have bought one or have one yourself at home, here are tips that can be useful to you to take good care of your ashitaba baby:

Grow ashitaba in a semi-shaded spot. The tomorrow plant grows well when it is sheltered in a hot and humid tropical climate. This is why the tropical countries are a good location to plant and harvest tomorrow plant. If there are torrential and heavy rains, you can always bring the pot indoors.

Keep the tomorrow plant moist at all time. When the pot of ashitaba plant is placed outdoors, it will be exposed to the sun directly. When it receives excessive direct rays from the sun, it will wilt faster and dry out. The leaves’ color will turn a sickly shade of yellow— which is unhealthy for the ashitaba plant. Therefore, you must make sure to water it or sprinkle it with water at all times. Its soil must remain fertile and

free-draining.

Avoid excessive wind. Ashitaba is a good and attractive houseplant in your garden, patio or yard. It grows better when there’s not much wind that dries the plant out. A good suggestion is to place the plant on a bright windowsill indoors for about four hours daily. In this way, it still receives adequate sunshine either filtered or reflected.

Wait for leaves to mature. If you don’t want to look into the calendar of how many days have passed since today, watch just how many leaves your tomorrow plant grows. One leaf is one day. But if you are growing a small plant, you may choose to harvest the leaves every other day or once a week. Patience is a good virtue practiced here. Mature leaves tend to have more active ingredients than the new shoots. So if you can patiently wait for some time, even if the tomorrow leaves are readily harvestable, wait.

Harvest properly. If you are growing a small ashitaba plant, try harvesting leaf by leaf instead of clipping an entire stalk. This is to ensure that you are harvesting the leaf completely—from the base of the stem or shoot. This is where you can get more nutrients from chalcones, which contain potency six times than that of antioxidants found in citrus fruits, four times as potent as those in soy and two times more potent than those of green tea!

How to Make Ashitaba as Food or Drink from the Tomorrow Plant “If the leaves were picked today, it would blossom again tomorrow; that’s the regenerative power of Ashitaba. Ashitaba name comes from the Japanese words “tomorrow leaf”. Ashitaba has been used in Japan (Edo Period of 15th Century) and China (Ming Dynasty in early 15th Century) as medicinal herbs due to its power of supplying vital nutrients. Chalcones, organic compounds called flavonoids, found in Ashitaba confer potent antioxidant activity exceeding that of red wine, green tea, or soy.” I’m not sure when ashitaba plant first became popular in the modern times. But clearly, it has been really well-known in China and the Japanese islands of Izu. These are where ashitaba came from, where it has become part of indigenous people’s local diet for for thousands of years. Ashitaba has many names in many countries in Asia and the US: Tomorrow’s Leaf, Earth Growth, Angelica Keiskei Koidzumi, 明日葉 (Ming Re Ye). It belongs to a family of celery and it looks like giant parsley. Also known as tomorrow plant, ashitaba is both taken as both medicine and edible green vegetable. It can be served in meals and also in snacks or drink. It tastes very vegetable-like, nothing fancy. However, you probably can’t get tired of taking it because of its amazing benefits.

Japan Ashitaba Ashitaba acts as immune system stimulant, which has inhibited the growth of unhealthy cell mutation. It helps to maintain the healthy function of the intestines and stomach, while also possessing possible anti-viral, antibacterial, and anti-acidic agents.

If you have a tomorrow plant at home or have friends who grow ashitaba, you may find the following tips helpful.

Harvest Tomorrow Leaves First thing you need to do is harvest tomorrow leaf from the plant. You can either take the leaves individually or pull the entire plant from the soil. Another way is to take clippings and allow the plant to continue growing. One other alternative harvesting the ashitaba leaves from the plant is pinching them with your fingernails. If you don’t want to have your newly manicured nails to be dirty or spoiled, use scissors.

Dry Tomorrow Leaves Secondly, you must dry the tomorrow leaves. For best results, hang a bunch of leaves upside down and tie the stems together with any kind of string with length of about a foot. You can also use a nail or a hook to do this. Remember, keep the tomorrow leaves away from sunlight to dry them—and stay out of humidity. You just have to wait for at most a week for the leaves to be completely dried. If you can’t wait that long, you can dry the tomorrow leaves by laying them out on a towel for about five minutes.

How to Prepare Ashitaba to Make Tea or Capsules If you’re thinking that you will be only getting the leaves to make tea or capsules, you’re wrong. You have harvested the entire plant for a purpose. If you took only the leaves, also take the stems separately because they are providers of many health benefits as well. To make ashitaba tea or capsules, break up the pieces of dried tomorrow leaves and stems. (You may cut the stems with a pair of scissors.) Then, put

them into a clean Ziploc or small plastic bag. Get a thin dish towel and roll a rolling pin back and forth over the bag about 10 times. If you don’t have all these materials and don’t want to exert this much effort, you can plainly use a knife or scissors and dice the leaves into small pieces. Your aim is to have the leaves look like those usual tea leaves sold in commercial stores and not for them to become powder. If you have achieved the size small enough for you to easily measure them with a scoop, celebrate success at this point. Next is to get the capsules and insert the small pieces of “crushed” tomorrow leaves inside, and you’re done. If you’re making tea, boil them into water for about 15 minutes and drink your homemade ashitaba tea from your favorite cup.

How to Prepare Ashitaba for Drinks, Salads and Soups Do not limit yourself to only making tea. You can also add the tomorrow leaves into an orange juice or any fruit juice. Explore! Treat it as any other vegetable. You can make ashitaba ice cream and smoothie—and the list goes on! You can add it on a bowl of salad as healthy toppings or as ingredient in a bowl of hot soup. For soups and salads, you don’t have to smash the leaves or cut it to smaller pieces. Instead, just add one fresh ashitaba leaf or shoot for every two cups of soup or salad. Remember to wash them first or blanch them with cold water and perform the same drying procedure as advised above. When done, at the end of the cooking process, stir the ashitaba leaves into the soup. This is to calm down the bitter taste a bit to your dish. Another idea is include ashitaba as part of your plating; add them as garnish before the soup goes to the table. And voila —startle your family with your homemade healthy gourmet dish!

Why Detoxify? As you now come to the end of this book, you may wonder about the importance of detoxification. Ashitaba helps the body be relieved from many disease as it helps the body detoxify and wash the toxins away. Through detoxification, we clear and filter toxins and wastes and allow our body to work on enhancing its basic functions. “People on the standard diet consume an average of a pound of inorganic toxins per year, this in the form of food additives, drug residues, and indigestible foods. Environmental and work hazards merely add to the toll on the liver.” – Dr. Anderson’s Let us take the quote from Dr. Anderson be our guide and reminder to the fact that toxins exist everywhere and they can lead to serious health problems. They are in food and the environment, and persist because of our insufficient metabolic ability to rid the body of all that we are exposed to on a daily basis. They can drain the body of energy and make one more susceptible to disease and infection. Toxins tend to concentrate in the liver and gastrointestinal tract, both places responsible for eliminating toxins from the body. Our body handles toxins by neutralizing, transforming, or eliminating them. As examples, many antioxidant nutrients may neutralize free-radical molecules. The liver helps transform many toxic substances into harmless agents, while the blood carries wastes to the kidneys; the liver also dumps wastes through the bile into the intestines, where much waste is eliminated. We also clear toxins through sweating, from exercise or heat. Our sinuses and skin may also be accessory elimination organs whereby excess mucus or toxins can be released, as with sinus congestion or skin rashes, respectively. The average diet which tends to be high in sugars and refined products and low in fiber contributes to the buildup of “mucoid plaque” along the

gastrointestinal tract. This “mucoid plaque” prevents proper digestion, and as a result a large percentage of people are suffering from malnutrition no matter how much they eat, or how nutritious the food is. Fiber is very important in the process of elimination of wastes from the bowel and a lack of fiber can lead to muscles of the colon wall losing their tone which can result in IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome now affecting one in five Americans) and diverticulitis. The liver is one of the main keys to good health and vitality. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Tradition had long recognized this importance. There are over 500 known functions of the liver, many of which are essential for life, all of which are essential for good health and vitality. It is almost impossible for any disease condition to develop until the liver becomes sluggish and weak. The average person is using only 40% of the liver’s capacity. Ashitaba has long been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to strengthen the liver and kidneys, reduce congestion in the liver and purify the blood, thus enhancing the body’s own ability to heal itself. Dr. Anderson has explained in his new books, “Cleanse & Purify Thyself Book One” and “Cleanse & Purify Thyself Book Two,” that: “The digestive system is the hub of the entire body. It feeds all our glands, organs and in fact, every single cell. When the digestive system becomes sluggish, overacid, and toxic it becomes less and less efficient. After the bowel becomes unnaturally acidic, it attempts to protect itself by secreting a glycoprotein substance that lines the entire intestinal wall, ‘mucoid plaque.’ Indeed, this condition can occur anywhere in the digestive tract where over acidity arises, including the esophagus, the stomach, the entire small intestine and colon. Once this develops, proper digestion becomes more and more dysfunctional. Then one problem occurs after another, and the bowel becomes a toxic sewer system. Once the bowel becomes toxic, the blood becomes toxic, for all the blood coming from the bowel, carrying the necessary nutrients to feed the heart, lungs, brain, muscles, etc. goes to the liver – nowhere else.

Then the liver must deal with the toxic blood. After years of relentless toxicity from the bowel, the liver becomes more and more sluggish. After a while it no longer functions efficiently and toxic overloads begin to go to other parts of the body, such as the kidneys, heart, brain, joints, skin, Lymph, etc. Disease manifests where the toxins settle. For when there is toxic settlement, there is lack of circulation, lack of oxygen and nutrients.
