THE AGES OF GAIA James Lovelock is an independent scientist who has cooperated with NASA in their space programme; President of the Marine Biology Association; a Fellow of the Royal Society; and visiting professor in the Depart' ment of Cybernetics at Reading University. He is a specialist in gas chromatography, and invented the electron capture detector, has revolutionized environmental analysis. He lives in Cornwall.
