MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT NEEDLE SWING To check: Adjust the needle swing according to the following procedure, If the needle bar starts moving sideways while the needle is in the fabric when sewing the zigzag pattern (with maximum zigzag width). Adjustment procedure: 1. Set the pattern selector dial at maximum zigzag width, and remove the top cover (see page 4). 2. Loosen the two setscrews. 3. Adjust the needle swing by turning the handwheel, while holding the worm so as not to rotate it, until the needle swing starts at 2–3 mm above the needle plate after the needle has come out of the right side of the needle hole. 4. Tighten two setscrews. 5. Attach the top cover. NOTE: After adjusting the needle swing, check that the upper shaft worm and gear rotate smoothly without any backlash between them.

MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT NEEDLE TIMING TO SHUTTLE To check: The height of the needle point from its lowest point should be in the range of 1.4–2.0 mm when the tip of the shuttle hook meets the left side of the needle at the left needle position in ascending travel. Adjustment procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Set the pattern selector dial at " ". Remove the base (see page 5). Open the bed cover plate. Remove the shuttle race ring. Turn the handwheel toward you until the tip of the shuttle hook meets the left side of the needle. 6. Loosen the lower shaft crank arm setscrews (A). 7. While holding the shuttle hook so it doesn't turn, turn the handwheel toward you until the needle comes to its lowest position. Then, further turn the handwheel to raise the needle about 1.7 mm from its lowest position. 8. 9. 10. 11.

Tighten the setscrews (A). Turn the handwheel toward you to check if the height is in the range of 1.4-2.0 mm. If it is not in this range, repeat the above procedure. Attach the shuttle race ring. Attach the base.

MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT LOWER SHAFT PLAY To check: The amount of lower shaft play should be 0.3 mm or less than 0.3 mm in the axial direction. The rotary play of hook driver should be less than 0.3 mm. Adjustment procedure: 1. Remove the bed cover and gear box rear cover (see page 2). 2. If there is lower shaft play, loosen the setscrew (A). 3. While pulling the lower shaft to the right, push the feed lifting cam to the left. Tighten the setscrew (A). 4. Loosen the setscrew (B), then turn the lower shaft front bushing to adjust the backlash. 5. Tighten the setscrew (B). 6. Check the hook timing (page 9).

MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT FEED LIFTING CAM POSITION To check: Put the zigzag foot between the round part of needle clamp and the bottom end of machine arm by lowering the needle bar from its highest position. Then insert the hexagon wrench into the setscrew (A). In this condition, the wrench should touch against the edge of feed rock shaft. Adjustment procedure: 1. Before proceeding this adjustment, check the hook timing (page 9) and the clearance between needle and hook (page 8). 2. Remove the bed cover (see page 2). 3. Put the zigzag foot between the round part of needle clamp and the bottom end of machine arm by lowering the needle bar. 4. Loosen the setscrew (A) with the hexagon wrench, and turn the feed lifting cam until the hexagon wrench touches against the feed rock shaft. Then tighten the setscrew (A). 5. Check the feed dog height (page 13), stretch stitch feed balance (page 14) and buttonhole feed balance (page 16).

MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT STRETCH STITCH FEED BALANCE To check: When the machine is set for the triple strength stitch " perforation during forward and backward feeding.

", the needle should enter the same

Adjustment procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Set the patter selector dial at " ". Set the stitch length dial at "S.S.". Remove the top cover (see page 1). Attach the zigzag foot. Place a sheet of paper on the feed dog, and lower the zigzag foot, then turn the balance wheel toward you to check the needle perforation. 6. Turn the setscrew (A) to adjust the stretch stitch feed balance: C) If the forward feeding is longer than backward feeding, turn the setscrew (A) clockwise. D) If the forward feeding is shorter than the backward feeding, turn the setscrew (A) counter clockwise.
