WHY HOMEOPATHY?

Do you want to help yourself and your family in a safe and natural way? Do you want to be able to take such remedies with you on holiday and whilst travelling?

Homeopathic remedies are natural and holistic. Homeopathy stimulates a healing response in us. The remedies are safe and non-toxic. They have no side effects unlike pharmaceutical drugs. Children (and adults) find them easy to take: all you need to do is suck them like a sweetie. For babies, you can always dissolve the pillules in water and then give a teaspoon of the water. Remedies have a pleasant taste, so the chances of you or a child spitting them out are close to zero! And last but not least, remedies are safe for the environment. There is no drug trail left in sewage or water.

WHY HAVE A TRAVEL KIT HANDY?

Having a homeopathy kit with you is invaluable when you go travelling. There are a variety of remedies you can take with you. Your choice will depend on where you are going, how you are going, what the weather is like at your destination, who else is going with you, and the activities you are planning to do.

The list I have compiled here is not exhaustive by any means. There might be specific needs you or your family might have that may not be covered here. I have tried to cover the essentials and hope they cover most of your needs. In addition to some remedies, I am including some tinctures that are very helpful. Remember, tinctures are not to be swallowed, and are for topical use.

TRANSPORTATION OF REMEDIES

TRANSPORTATION You can carry 15-20 remedies with you without breaking the luggage weight restrictions. In terms of what to do at airports, there are differing points of view. I used to try to stop my remedy box from going through security x-ray machines. It proved to be a nightmare, so I eventually gave up. And to my relief, it did not make any difference to the effectiveness of my remedies.

My advice is: don’t worry about it. This way you can carry a few bottles on your person for use during travel. You can take remedies with you in the car/boat/caravan/motorbike/cycle - whatever mode of transport takes your fancy!

STORING REMEDIES & EMERGENCIES

STORING REMEDIES There are many ways to store remedies. You might have a readymade kit in a storage box/bag which can make life a bit easier. But even if you do not, never fear. There are other ways, some of them a bit DIY! Do you have an unused spectacle case? Or a lipstick holder bag? Or a small make-up bag? Or even a pencil case?

You can use any of these to put a few remedy bottles in. The important thing is to ensure you can close the bag, so that nothing slips out. Also important is that you keep the remedies away from direct and strong sunlight and essential oils.

EMERGENCIES If you have an accident or feel seriously unwell, you must contact a medical doctor or the accident and emergency department for immediate help. Homeopathy does not seek to replace your doctor. However, homeopathy can help with healing in the aftermath of medical procedures should you wish to use it.

GENERAL RULES FOR ACCUTE PRESCRIBING

This ebook is for helping with acute problems. If the homeopathic remedies you have are not helping, then please get medical help if you need it. I have described small remedy pictures for you to read. You will be using the principle of like treating like. If you are unfamiliar with this principle, then you might want to read up on it and familiarise yourself with it. There are many resources available online which are helpful including on www.homeopathy247.com Whenever you are looking to find an appropriate remedy, try and think of choosing symptoms so that you have a solid basis for prescribing. I like to think of symptoms as a 3 legged stool. If you have 3 different symptoms which are reliable, then you are more likely to find a good match between the patient and remedy. Finding a remedy based on just one symptom can be difficult, so you might want to use a physical symptom plus an emotional symptom plus a modality. When I refer to a modality, I mean what makes either the symptom or the person feel better or worse.

POTENCY & DOSAGE

POTENCY Most readymade remedy kits will provide the remedies in a 30c potency. Some might provide them in a 200c potency. If you want to collect your own remedies, then I would suggest starting with 30c, and you can add 200c as and when you need them. The 30c potency is a good all round potency for most situations.

DOSAGE Remember, the remedy is a catalyst. It kick-starts the self healing process. You do not need to keep repeating remedies as that can overstimulate the healing response. So do give the body a chance to heal itself by giving the remedies time to work. One dose is equal to one pillule/pill taken at a specific time. If you take more than one pill, it does not matter. It is still regarded as one dose.

POTENCY & DOSAGE

If the situation is very acute, (eg someone in a lot of pain, someone with intense emotion), then you can give your chosen remedy in short intervals, every 5-10 minutes. Otherwise, a pill every hour or 2 hours is fine. Once you see a response such as bruising going down/ shock wearing off, you know you are on the right path. I would suggest taking no more than 3-4 doses (a dose is one pill taken at a specific time). After 3/4 doses, assess the situation. If it is better, stop dosing or increase the gap between doses. If symptoms return, repeat the remedy. If the remedy stops working after having led to improvement, reassess. Another remedy may be required, so observe and rethink. And if there is no change after 4 doses, then stop the remedy and think of another one.

TOPICAL REMEDIES

Hypercal tincture

This is a mixture of Hypericum and Calendula tinctures and is an antiseptic and healer of wounds. I have always taken it with me on holiday, and particularly when accompanied by children. You dilute a few drops of the tincture in a glass of cooled boiled water and then use topically for: Cleaning cuts/grazes, cold sores, mouth ulcers (mouth wash only), eye inflammations/sticky eyes. Euphrasia tincture

You dilute a couple of drops in a glass of cooled boiled water and then use an eye bath or put on cotton wool. This is great specifically for bathing the eyes if there is an infection, sore eyes from dust/ swimming/ hayfever/styes. If Euphrasia does not help the eyes, you can try Hypercal tincture.

TIPS TO REMEMBER

A little goes a long way in homeopathy. Try not to overprescribe. If the remedies you have tried are not working and you need help, do not hesitate to find a medical practitioner. If your symptoms do not go away over a period of time, and you find that they are still bothering you after 3 months, then you should consider seeing a homeopath. Why? Firstly because your symptoms are not acute symptoms anymore and seeing a homeopath will give you a chance to get the bigger picture assessed professionally. And secondly, acute remedies do not address the cause of the problem, so getting professional help means that the cause can be addressed.
