I began to edit Gath Maighe Lena in 1934, at a time when I had just commenced the study of Irish, and it was published four years later by the invitation of Myles Dillon. From shortly after its publication, I had been compiling notes with the intention of preparing a thoroughly revised edition but, since I have been unable to realise that ambition, I am happy now to permit the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies simply to reprint my 1938 edition together with a list (printed overleaf) of what I regard as essential corrigenda.
