A New Age

Approach

to

an Age Old Science

This book is one of the few that encourages the reader to use his or her own feelings and intuitions to understand the birth chart and thereby to generate personal insights and useful self-knowledge, not irrelevant, abstract speculation. This is proven by the many letters received by the author, excerpts from which follow:

book has renewed my interest in astrology. For the first time, I've found a writer who expresses astrology as the energies reflected from the planets. Your intuitive approach has added new dimensions to this ancient science. I found your esoteric understanding

About the Author: Marcus Allen feels his real education began after he graduated with honors (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna cum Laude) from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Theater and English. He spent ten years in concentrated study of astrology, yoga, Zen, Tibetan Buddhism, and Western so-called 'occult' traditions. He has written four books as a result of his studies, and teaches workshops and seminars on astrology, meditation, and writing and publishing. He lives in Mill Valley, Calif.

But the people misused astrology it became a limiting game, a pastime in itself, rather than a tool for dharma, for 'words of truth', for growth and understanding, going beyond all limitations. So, Manjushri took the astrology books away from the people, and hid them in a cave, until such time that the people would be ready to use the teachings skillfully and meaningfully

Then, much later, a man named Padma Sambhava (meaning "the Lotus Born") entered into Tibetan history. Padma Sam-

Padma Sambhava prayed deeply and powerfully to Manjushri, summoning him and asking for the astrology texts, praying that, people would be ready to use their knowledge for their own good. Manjushri granted his prayer, and told him where the texts were hidden. In this way, Padma Sambhava was

Then, you begin to notice the "Wanderers," or the "Planets" the especially bright stars which do not belong in any constellation, but wander thru the night sky .

.

Then, you notice that the Wanderers, too, follow a pattern, a path in which they rise in the east and set in the west, like the Sun during the day. Each night, the Wanderers are seen against the backdrop of a certain constellation, but, over the weeks and months, they slowly and regularly move into other constellations Because they all rise and set in about the same place, the "Wanderers" including the Moon, and even the Sun .

The Sun takes one year to travel thru all 12 signs of the Zodiac. The Moon takes only one month the fastest moving "Planet" which is why it is a symbol for change of all (When, in astrology, you refer to the "Planets," you are also including the Sun and the Moon.)

Jupiter takes 12 years for a complete revolution thru the Zodiac

.

You can clearly see with the 'naked' eye the seven planets which were known to all ancient peoples: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Then, once you are aware of the regular, clocklike nature of the planetary cycles, you begin making the connections which truly gave birth to the ancient intuitive science and artform of astrology: You begin to notice correspondences with things that

happen when certain planets are in certain signs. This phenomenon bears out the deep truth attributed to Hermes Trismegistus,

response to this is to agree that each sign has its own weaknesses, but to stress that we should in no way let these weaknesses hinder us from tuning into our strengths. Don't give your own or anybody else's weaknesses too much power. Focus on your strengths and you are strong. Focus on your weaknesses and you are weak.

Virgo energy can be critical, picky, constantly focusing on what is wrong with everything, including themselves. Evolved Scorpio has undergone a complete, magical transformation, into the Eagle (or the Phoenix). The Eagle's vision, it is said, is so keen that it can spot a mouse from half a mile in the air and it flies closer to the Sun than any other creature .

Focus on the evolving qualities of each sign, and you are given deep tools of growth. The basic key at this level is this: The evolving

In the brilliant teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, this key (to inner growth, to light, to whatever you wish) is expressed very clearly:

They teach

categories of 'negative' — or separating, alienating, contracting — emotions. Tibetan, the word for these emotions the same word as 'poisons' — for they can indeed poison us, so that (In

Each of these 'negative' emotions, when confronted, clearly looked at, and by doing so, understood, becomes changed, transmuted into one of the five wisdoms:

The background of this path just happens to be a series of 12 constellations, which from ancient times have been known to us as the Zodiac, and which form a convenient means of mapping the positions of the planets. For purposes of convenience, each constellation is said to comprise exactly 30° of the circle (so that

People with planets predominantly on the top half of their chart will deal with activity in the world (and beyond, if it gets into the 11th and 12th houses). People with planets predominantly on the bottom half of their chart will deal primarily with inner
